The research lines in the Astrophysics Division are listed below:

High Energy Astrophysics

High Energy Astrophysics

The main science goal in this research line is the study of cosmic X- and Gamma-ray sources, aiming to better understand the kind of objects the emit X- and Gamma-radiation and the emission mechanisms that produce thesm.

Cosmology

Cosmology

The main science goal of this line is to study the cosmic microwave background radiation (CMBR) through its properties, to understand the physics of the early Universe and the processes that led to the formation of structures in the Universe.

Optical and Infrared Astrophysics

Optical and Infrared Astrophysics

This research line is active mainly in the fields of stellar and extragalactic astrophysics, and uses photometric, spectroscopic and polarimetric data in the visible and infrared regions of the electromagnetic spectrum. In the context of Extragalactic research, there are a few projects on the global properties of elliptical galaxies in different environments; compact groups. Also, studying the star formation history in elliptical galaxies at different redshifts is one of the primary investigation of our group.

Radiophysics

Radiophysics

This research line conducts research in galactic and extragalactic astrophysics, as well as in solar-earth relations, using measurements in the radio band of the electromagnetic spectrum.

Heliophysics

Heliophysics

This research line studies the effects caused by solar phenomena (eruptions, coronal mass ejections - CME - and eruption filaments) responsible for particle acceleration and production of shock waves. It also studies its propagation and interaction with the interplanetary medium, from Sun's atmosphere up to Jupiter's orbit.

Gravitational Waves

Gravitational Waves

The science goal in the Gravitational Waves research is to study the Universe from the point of view of sources emitting gravitational waves.
